by on Feb.19, 2010, under investment

You have probably overheard friends talking about Wheat grass at some point during the last few years. Maybe it is in a juice bar or from a friend or family member already taking one of the many various forms of wheatgrass but if you’re like most people, you may still not understand wheat grass or the true healing power wheat grass possesses.

Wheat grass is basically the young blades of grass from wheat grain. When the wheatgrain is planted it begins to develop shoots within a few days. A few days later these shoots develop into blades of dense green grass. After as little as 8-10 days the wheat grass is ready for harvesting, At this stage it is worth noting that although the wheat grass already posseses high levels of minerals it hasn’t had the time required to develop complex carbohydrates which can be found in wheatgrass grown over winter.

Once the wheatgrass has been processed it is usually turned into many forms, which usually include wheatgrass powder (Usually made by drying and grinding the wheat grass blades into a fine powder) wheat grass capsules (basically the powdered wheatgrass filled into capsules for ease of consumption) wheat grass tablets (again usually the powder cold pressed into tablet form) and wheat grass juice. (The wheatgrass leaves are juiced in a specialist wheatgrass juicer which grinds the liquid from the wheat grass leaving essential nutrients intact.)

Any of the various forms of wheat grass are packed with a wealth of health boosting properties, with a wide range of minerals, vitamins, enzymes and amino acids. Wheatgrass also consists of at least 70% chlorophyll, which is very similar to blood due to its DNA structure. This means that our bodies can absorbs the nutrients in wheatgrass extemely easily.

Wheatgrass has been used for decades but it has only recently reached the united kingdom and you can now find it online and at most juice bars. Wheatgrass has been used for many medical ailments and can be applied topically for external skin conditions like eczema and acne. When consumed internally it can help detoxify the blood stream replenishing it with important nutrients which are essential for optimum health.
